WOLVERINES DROP THREE TO SAINTS ON FRIDAY

ADRIAN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team continued Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play in a tripleheader against Siena Heights University Friday in Adrian, Mich.

The games were hosted at Siena Heights with UM-Dearborn serving as the home team. The series was moved from Saturday and Sunday due to inclement weather. The games were all scheduled for seven innings.

SHU came away with the sweep, pulling away late for a 14-3 win in game one while edging the Wolverines 3-2 in the middle contest. After UM-Dearborn took an early lead with a three-run home run in the third game, the Saints rallied with two in the fifth and one in the sixth to take the finale 5-3 in six. The game was called after six innings due to cold temperature.

The Wolverines fall to 3-20 overall and 1-14 in the WHAC.

In the opener, Siena Heights opened the scoring with three in the third. The Wolverines cut the deficit to one with a sacrifice fly from Daniel Kerr (JR/Macomb, MI) in the third and an RBI single from Waymond Lemon Jr.(JR/Detroit, MI), in the fourth.

SHU took control of the game with six runs in the sixth and five runs in the seventh. Cole VanWagoner(SO/Mancelona, MI) added an RBI single in the sixth for the Wolverines. Antonio Carta (SO/Allen Park, MI) and VanWagoner each finished with two hits, while Chase Turner (SR/Franklin, MI) scored two runs.

John Dyda (FR/Wyandotte, MI) took the loss on the mound for UM-Dearborn, going 5.1 innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on seven hits, while walking four and striking out three.

In the second game, Ramiro Rodriguez (FR/Southgate, MI) put together a complete game, going seven innings, allowing three runs on 12 hits, while walking two and striking out one in the loss.

UM-Dearborn took the lead in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Shaun Hannibal (FR/Brighton, MI), scoring Turner. The Saints tied the score at 1-1 with a run in the fifth and took a two-run lead with a pair in the seventh.

The Wolverines rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring one on an RBI single from Carta. With runners on first and second and one out, the Saints got a double play to end the game.

In the finale, SHU jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning, but UM-Dearborn responded with a three-run home run from Shaun Hannibal in the second inning, his first as a Wolverine.

UM-Dearborn starting pitcher Dan Bos (FR/Livonia, MI) settled in and the score remained 3-2 in favor of the Wolverines until the fifth. The Saints scored two in the fifth and one in the sixth to move in front.

Bos pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on four hits while striking out one and walking four.

The Wolverines continue WHAC action against Madonna University for a three-game series starting at 4 pm Thursday in Livonia, Mich.
