WOLVERINES CONTINUE SPRING TRIP AT RUSSMATT

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team battled in two close contests on the second day of the RussMatt Invitational Monday in Winter Haven, Fla.

The Wolverines fell to (RV) Judson University 7-3 in the first game of the day, while dropping a contest to Point Park University 7-5 in game two. The losses move UM-Dearborn to 0-13 on the season.

After falling behind in the first inning 3-0 to Judson, the Wolverines rallied with one in the second and another in the fourth to cut the deficit to one. UM-Dearborn got on the board with a sacrifice RBI off the bat of Jacob Leija (FR/Southgate, MI). Andrew Capone (FR/Warren, MI) drove in the run in the fourth on a groundout.

Three runs from the Eagles in the sixth secured the win for Judson. Antonio Carta (SO/Allen Park, MI) picked up an RBI single for the Wolverines in the seventh, scoring Paul Husak Jr. (FR/Livonia, MI) Cole VanWagoner (SO/Mancelona, MI) led the Wolverine offense with three hits in three plate appearances, while Shaun Hannibal (FR/Brighton, MI) added two hits.

Against Point Park, which swept UM-Dearborn in a doubleheader on Sunday, the Wolverines again fell behind early. The Pioneers got five in the second and two in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead. UM-Dearborn put together a rally in the sixth, with Ryan Beadle (SO/Kalamazoo, MI) and Hannibal each driving in two runs.

The Wolverines have an off day on Tuesday and will to return action with a doubleheader against Gannon University at 10 am Wednesday in Winter Haven.
