ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team played the first home games in program history over the weekend, hosting the defending Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference champions, the University of Northwestern Ohio in two games on Saturday and another Sunday at Fisher Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Wolverines dropped the first two games on Saturday 10-1 and 11-0, with UNOH pitcher Oliver Mailoux tossing a seven-inning no-hitter against the Wolverines. UM-Dearborn battled early in game three on Sunday, but UNOH pulled away for a 10-3 win to complete the sweep. The Wolverines fall to 0-6 overall and 0-6 in the WHAC in the program's first season as a varsity sponsored sport at UM-Dearborn.
The Wolverines had five hits in the opener, including two from designated hitter Ryan Beadle (SO/Kalamazoo, MI), who drove in Andrew Capone (FR/Warren, MI) with an RBI single to get the Wolverines on the board. Capone had a triple for the Wolverines. Alex Leija (FR/Southgate, MI) got the start on the mound, going 4.1 innings, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits and striking out two. Leija is 0-2 on the season.
In game two, John Dyda (FR/Wyandotte, MI) started for the Wolverines. He went 5.1 innings, allowing nine runs, eight earned on seven hits, while striking out two. Dyda is 0-2 on the season.
The Wolverines kept the game tight in the finale, with a run in the first and two in the second after UNOH went out in front 4-0 in the top of the opening frame. Antonio Carta (SO/Allen Park, MI) had an RBI single in the first, while Shaun Hannibal (FR/Brighton, MI) added a two-run double in the second. Dan Bos (FR/Livonia, MI) started for the Wolverines, allowing nine runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings. Bos is 0-2 on the season.
Hannibal, Bos and Ramiro Rodriguez (FR/Southgate, MI) each finished with two hits in the game.
The Wolverines conclude the fall portion of the 2017-18 schedule with three WHAC games next weekend on the road against Lawrence Tech, starting with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
