WOLVERINES SPLIT WITH WARNER ON FINAL DAY OF RUSSMATT

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team earned a second consecutive split, winning game one against Warner University Friday at the RussMatt Invitational in Winter Haven,

The Wolverines got a strong performance on the mound from John Dyda (FR/Wyandotte, MI), while scoring seven runs in the third inning and four in the seventh to capture a 12-6 win over the Royals. Warner took game two 9-0.

The split moves UM-Dearborn to 2-15 overall and the Wolverines finish the RussMatt Invitational with a record of 2-6.

Dyda got the first win of his college career, allowing six runs on seven hits while striking out five. Nick Montroy (JR/Garden City, MI) pitched the final inning to secure the win.

Five Wolverines finished with multiple hits, led by Jacob Leija (FR/Southgate, MI) with three hits, two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base. Andrew Capone (FR/Warren, MI), Daniel Kerr (JR/Macomb, MI), Ryan Beadle (SO/Kalamazoo, MI) and Waymond Lemon each added two hits. Beadle recorded a team-high three RBIs.

UM-Dearborn finished with 12 runs on 12 hits with two errors.

Warner took control of game two in the third inning, holding the Wolverines off the board. UM-Dearborn was limited to five hits, with Cole VanWagoner(SO/Mancelona, MI) earning the lone extra-base knock with a double.

The Wolverines have two weeks off and open the spring portion of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season against Aquinas College March 17-18 in Grand Rapids, Mich.
