Men's Basketball falls in WHAC opener to SHU

ADRIAN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team opened the 2018-19 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season with a road game against Siena Heights University Wednesday in Adrian, Mich.

With the Wolverines up two points midway through the second half, the Saints went on a 9-2 run to take control, as SHU closed out an 85-75 victory to drop UM-Dearborn to 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the WHAC.

The Wolverines were led by sophomore Jason Gigliotti with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting, while adding 11 rebounds for a double-double. Senior Xavier Crofford came off the bench to add 14 points, while sophomore Mathew Mignault and junior Cody Kegley each added 12 points.

UM-Dearborn shot 30-of-72 from the field, 12-of-31 from deep and 3-of-5 from the line, while recording 13 assists and nine turnovers.

Kevin Smith II scored a game-high 24 points on 10-of-11 shooting to lead the Saints, who shot 33-of-58 from the field, 8-of-16 from deep and 11-of-16 from the line.

The Wolverines step out of conference play to take on No. 13 West Virginia Tech at 1 pm Saturday in Rio Grande, Ohio.
