No. 16 Cougars top UM-Dearborn

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team dropped a second straight game to a nationally ranked foe, falling to No. 16 University of Saint Francis Tuesday in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The Wolverines overcame an early double-digit deficit to pull within three at the break, but an 18-6 run to close the game closed out an 81-64 win for the Cougars. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 1-3 on the season.

Mafiaion Joyner continued a strong start to his senior season with another double-double. He scored 18 points on 8-of-18 shooting while pulling down 17 rebounds. Junior Cody Kegley added 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting, adding a team-high six assists.

The Wolverines shot 26-of-63 from the field, 5-of-21 from deep and 7-of-15 from the line. UM-Dearborn finished with nine assists and 15 turnovers, while narrowly winning the rebound battle 38-37.

USF was led by Connor Lautzenheiser with 20 points, while Jordan Matthews added 17 points off the bench.

The Wolverines head back to Indiana to compete in the Richmond Classic, starting against No. 2 Indiana University-East at 5 pm Friday in Richmond, Ind.
