Wolverines stay perfect with 68-54 win over Cougars

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team hosted Spring Arbor University in a nonconference matchup on Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

UM-Dearborn showed off its strong defense in the first half, holding the Cougars to just six points in the second quarter, on its way to defeating SAU 68-54. The victory improves the Wolverines winning streak to seven games dating back to last season and to the first 4-0 start for the program in a decade.

The Wolverines battled in the first quarter and took a 17-12 lead after 10 minutes. In the second, UM-Dearborn shut things down defensively and were led offensively by Ro'Zhane Wells with seven points in the frame.

With a 34-18 lead at the half, both teams opened the game up offensively as they combined for 11 3-pointers in the second half.

Wells led the way for UM-Dearborn with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. Sade Lemons and Natalie Spala both finished with nine points each as Spala shot a perfect 3-for-3 from long range and added four assists off the bench.

The Wolverines shot 24-for-56 from the field and capitalized on 8-of-24 from beyond the arc. UM-Dearborn won the rebounding battle 30-25 while finishing with 16 assists and 12 turnovers.

The Cougars were led by Cierra Lipps with 13 points off the bench, while Rachel Nelson added 10 points.

The Wolverines host Indiana University-South Bend at 2 pm on Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
