UM-Dearborn cruises to 97-39 win in home opener

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball hosted Wright State-Lake Campus in its 2018-19 home opener Friday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

Up by 11 at the half, the Wolverines took complete control in the third quarter, outscoring the Lakers by 27 and cruising to a 97-39 win. The victory pushes UM-Dearborn to 3-0 on the season as the winning streak dating back to last season stretches to six games.

A slow start on offense kept the Lakers in the game throughout the first half, despite UM-Dearborn holding the visitors to only 18 shots and forcing 21 turnovers in the opening 20 minutes. Up The Wolverine offense erupted to open the third quarter, as UM-Dearborn took over with a 25-2 run to open the frame.

In her home debut, Ro'Zhane Wells scored 15, hitting three 3-pointers. Cydney Williams continued her strong start to the season with 15 points and four rebounds. Senior Charity Godbold came off the bench to record 14 points and six rebounds, all in the fourth quarter. Sade Lemons, Jenna Rogers, and Micah White all added nine points for the Wolverines.

UM-Dearborn shot 33-of-83 from the field, 8-of-29 from deep and 23-of-36 from the line, while finishing with 22 assists and 11 turnovers. The Wolverine defense forced 40 Laker turnovers and recorded 15 steals as a team, including four from senior Natalie Spala. The Lakers were limited to 12-of-40 shooting.

The Wolverines won the rebounding battle 46-35, including 27 offensive boards.

UM-Dearborn returns to action on Tuesday in an exhibition matchup against the University of Detroit Mercy at 7 pm Tuesday in Detroit, Mich.
