LTU hands UM-Dearborn first WHAC loss

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team dropped a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest to Lawrence Tech Wednesday in Southfield, Mich.

With the No. 23 Wolverines up one with seven minutes to play, the (RV) Blue Devils went on an 8-0 run to pull away for 76-67 win. The loss snaps a five-game win streak is the first defeat in league play for UM-Dearborn, which falls to 9-2 overall and 4-1 in the WHAC.

Down 10-2 early in the first quarter, the Wolverines used five 3-pointers to take a 24-21 lead after one and UM-Dearborn went on to lead by three at the half. The Blue Devils tightened up on defense after UM-Dearborn led 61-60 in the fourth, holding the Wolverines to six points the rest of the way.

The Wolverines were led by Jeorgia Jones with 16 points and five rebounds, while Sade Lemons added 15 points, including three 3-pointers. Ro'Zhane Wells finished with 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists, while Laekyn Jaciuk recorded 10 points and seven rebounds.

UM-Dearborn shot 23-of-63 from the field, 8-of-17 from deep and 13-of-15 from the line while totaling 15 assists and 12 turnovers.

LTU was led by Kendall Fisher with 21 points, while Nicole Buckingham added 18 points and 12 rebounds.

UM-Dearborn looks to rebound against (RV) Rochester College at 1 pm Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
