Anani scores two in 3-2 win at Cleary

HOWELL, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team held on for a crucial win over Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference newcomer Cleary University Saturday at Page Field in Howell, Mich.

The Wolverines scored two in the first half and added an insurance goal with 15 minutes to play. The Cougars made it interesting late with a tally in the final minutes, but UM-Dearborn earned the 3-2 win to move to 4-4-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the WHAC.

Jacob Drzyzga got the Wolverines on the board first with his first goal of the season on a free-kick assist from Vito Serra in the 27th minute. UM-Dearborn doubled its lead with the first-career goal from Mohamad Anani in the 44th minute as Jack Barnett took advantage of a Cleary turnover to feed the ball to Anani.

Cleary cut the deficit in half with a goal in the 64th minute, but Anani netted his second of the game with 15 minutes to play. Cleary's late goal came in the 87th minute.

Stephen Mezuk picked up his second win of the season with three saves in net for the Wolverines, who outshot the Cougars 13-11.

UM-Dearborn continues WHAC play against Siena Heights University at 7 pm Wednesday in Adrian, Mich.
