Wallace's late goal pushes Men's Soccer past Saints

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team jumped right back into the thick of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference postseason race with a thrilling win over Aquinas College Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Wolverines got the game-winning goal in the 87th minute to top the Saints 2-1, the first victory in the seven-year history of the UM-Dearborn program over Aquinas. The win moves UM-Dearborn to 5-5-1 overall and 2-3-0 in the WHAC.

With six games remaining on the schedule, the Wolverines are in seventh place in the WHAC standings. The top eight teams at the end of the regular season will make the WHAC Postseason Tournament.

UM-Dearborn got the scoring started early with a goal from freshman Bryan Lendzion in the 23rd minute on an assist from fellow freshman Jack Barnett. The assist for Barnett was his sixth of the season.

Aquinas tied the score early in the second half on a goal from Marlon Bykerk in the 49th minute.

The game-winner was scored by sophomore Tanner Wallace for the Wolverines with 3:24 left to play, his first of the season. Freshman Daniel Oliver got the assist, the first of his career.

The Wolverines were outshot 15-8, as UM-Dearborn goalkeeper Stephen Mezuk made six saves in the win.

The Wolverines continue WHAC play against Madonna University at 4 pm Saturday in Livonia, Mich.
