Offensive Explosion Propels Wolverines to Series Sweep Against Rochester

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (15-10-2, 14-5-1) men's ice hockey team wrapped up a weekend series with the Rochester University Warriors (1-23-0, 0-20-0) at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena. Dearborn took both games in the contest, winning 8-0 on Friday (Feb. 3) and 16-2 on Saturday (Feb. 4). 

 

Eric Polzin started in game one stopping all 20 shots he faced. Polzin locking down the crease, the Wolverine forecheck was excellent and pinned the Warriors in their neutral zone for most of the game, resulting in the Wolverines outshooting the Warriors 88-20. Joey Cullinan led the Wolverines in points scoring two goals and adding two assists. 

 

Brendan West added a pair of goals and an assist. Danny Fletcher, Josh Makarchuk, Max Hartwell, and Colin Garner added goals in the contest. 

 

The home finale proved to be a barn burner as the Wolverines scored 12 goals in the game's first two periods. After that, the Wolverine offense exploded for 16 goals in the contest, with nine different players scoring goals and 14 other players recording a point. Hartwell and Mikhail Khudenko led the way with five points as Hartwell tallied five assists, while Khudenko added a goal and four assists. 

 

Dearborn put the game out of reach as they scored 10 goals in the second period. Bailey Byrd, Quest Bigelow, and Jason Cuppari recorded hat tricks in the game.
