Wolverines fall in rematch against Lakers, 3-1

Wolverines fall in rematch against Lakers, 3-1

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team looked to rebound as they closed out the first weekend series of the season against the Grand Valley State Lakers.

After a scoreless opening period, the Wolverines would get on the board first early in the second as Freshman Chance DeSana would put in a rebound off of a Joey Cullinan shot, getting the first goal of his collegiate career. Kieran O'Connell would also add an assist on the play.

The Lakers would respond, however, getting the next two goals in a penalty-riddled second period and would take a one-goal lead into the intermission.

UM-Dearborn would press in the third, but could not solve the GVSU goaltender. The Lakers would go on to add an insurance goal, handing the Wolverines a 3-1 defeat.

The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 0-2-0 on the season.

Kayden Pickles made his first start of the season and played strong in the losing effort, making 50 saves.

The Wolverines return to action as they open up the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference portion of their schedule by hosting the Concordia University Cardinals at 7 pm Friday, October 8th at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena in Dearborn, Mich.
