Wolverines Split Weekend Series Against No. 15 Saints

DEARBORN, Mich. – The No.14 University of Michigan-Dearborn (3-4-0, 3-1-0) men's ice hockey team split a weekend series against No. 15 Aquinas College (4-2-0, 3-1-0). The Wolverines lost 2-1 on Friday (Oct. 14) and dominated the finale, winning 8-2 on Saturday (Oct. 15)

 

Kieran O'Connell scored the lone goal for the Wolverines on Friday, and he linked up with Mikhail Khudenko and Joe Cullinan for his first-period goal. Aquinas would tie the contest up in the second period, but neither team could find the winning goal in regulation. Eric Polzin was strong in net all night, stopping 47 shots, but with 27 seconds remaining in overtime, the Saints snuck one past the Livonia, Mich. native and took the 2-1 lead. 

 

The Wolverines bounced back in the finale, dominating the contest from start to finish. Brendan West and Cullinan were a thorn in the Saint's side all night as they scored or assisted on six of the eight Wolverine goals. In addition, chance DeSana and Jake Emery chipped in goals, while Khudenko added a pair of assists to his season total. 

 

Tanner Beals (2-1-0) was strong in net for the Wolverines, stopping 30 shots on the night.
