Wolverines swept by Aquinas in weekend-series

DEARBORN, Mich.— The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team returned to action against with a home-and-home weekend series with the Aquinas College Saints on Friday (10/29) and Saturday (10/30).

On Friday, the Wolverines found themselves facing a two-goal deficit after the first on the road, but would manage to cut the lead to one late in third. However, the early lead built by the Saints was enough for them to escape with a 3-2 win over UM-Dearborn.

The Wolverines would bounce back when Adam Groat scored in the opening minute of the second period from Mathieu LaForest. Aquinas College would respond midway through the second, regaining its two goal lead. LaForest would add a goal from Brendan West and Billy Brock, but that would be as close as UM-Dearborn would get.

Kayden Pickles got the start in goal for the Wolverines, making 34 saves on the night.

On Saturday, UM-Dearborn looked to bounce back, however the Saints would mimic the first period from the night before, taking a two-goal lead into the first intermission. Despite the Wolverines adding the next goal, Aquinas would add two more goals to pull away from UM-Dearborn, earning the weekend-series sweep.

The losses drop the Wolverines to 4-7-1 overall and 2-4-0 in the WHAC.

Eric Polzin go the start in goal for UM-Dearborn, making 11 saves. Tanner Beals would come in for relief duty, making 13 saves.

The Wolverines return to action with a home-and-home weekend series against the Concordia University Cardinals at 7pm Friday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich. and at 7pm Saturday at the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea, Mich.
