Wolverines fall in overtime, settle for series-split with Blue Devils

DEARBORN, Mich.— The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team opened up Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play, with a home-and-home weekend series against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils on Friday night and Saturday night.

On Friday, the Wolverines would claw back to erase a two-goal deficit in the second, finding the back of the net four times in five minutes on their way to a 4-3 win over LTU.

UM-Dearborn came out a bit flat in the first, as the Blue Devils would strike twice in the first 10 minutes. However, the Wolverines relied on four different goal scorers to in the second period to complete the comeback. Anthony Davis, Chance Mathews, Jake Aslanian, and Jared Lee all found the back of the net, with Mathews and Aslanian getting the first of their careers. 

Brendan West would record two assists in the game, while Billy Brock, Colin West, Nathan Magier, and Seth Lause would add one each.

Kayden Pickles would get the nod in goal, making 25 saves in the game for UM-Dearborn.

Saturday night featured a back-and-forth, high-scoring affair between the Wolverines and the Blue Devils. Despite UM-Dearborn jumping out to a two-goal lead midway through the first, LTU would come back to tie the game on five different occasions. Jordan Woytas connected in overtime, helping the Blue Devils escape with the 7-6 win over the Wolverines in overtime. 

Leading the way for the Wolverines was Seth Lause (2G), Billy Brock (2A), and Brendan West (1G, 1A), while LTU was led by Blake Heier (4G) and Woytas (1G, 1A). Also connecting for the Wolverines was Adam Groat, Anthony Davis, and Dylan Defosse.

Tanner Beals took the loss in goal for UM-Dearborn, making 27 saves in the effort.

The series spilt with the Blue Devils moves the Wolverines to 3-5 on the season and 1-1-0 in the WHAC.

UM-Dearborn returns to action with a home-and-home weekend series against the Indiana Tech Warriors on Friday Oct. 22 (@ITU) and Saturday Oct. 23 (@UM-D).
