Wolverine offense shines in sweep of Concordia

DEARBORN, Mich.— The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team returned to action with a home-and-home weekend series against the Concordia University Cardinals on Friday (11/5) and Saturday (11/6).

The Wolverines looked to get back on track after a tough Aquinas series and did just that Friday night against Concordia University with six different players scoring in the game, with UM-Dearborn taking the opening game 6-3.

Despite giving up an early goal, the Wolverines would respond on the power play when Matheiu LaForest slammed home a back-door pass from Billy Brock with Adam Groat receiving the additional assist. 

UM-Dearborn would strike again on the man-advantage in the opening minutes of the second, as Jared Lee lit the lamp with assists from Anthony Davis and Brendan West.

Brock (A:Groat) and Joey Cullinan (A: Chance Matthews) would finish the scoring in the period, both connecting on breakaways, while Gavin Lawrie, the first of his career, (A: Cullinan, Blake Petterle) and Silas Johnson (A: Colin West, Mikhail Khudenko) would pad the Wolverine lead in the third, securing the victory.

Kayden Pickles got the start in goal, making 21 saves in the game.

On Saturday, UM-Dearborn would continue its strong offense output, scoring the first five goals of the game, on its way to an 8-3 win.

Davis would get the scoring started two minutes in with his second in as many games. Johnson would connect two minutes later from Anton Martino and Cullinan, while Brock would close out the first period scoring with an assist going to LaForest.

The Wolverine offense would explode for four goals in the second, two power play goals coming from Brendan West, Cullinan, and Davis with his second of the night, also coming on the man-advantage. Levi Young and Colin West would add two assists, while Davis, Matthews and Lawrie would add an assist each.

Brock would close out the scoring, getting his second tally of the night with Seth Lause and Josh Makarchuk getting the assists. 

Tanner Beals got the nod in goal, making 13 saves in the winning effort.

The series sweep moves the Wolverines to 6-7-1 overall and 4-4-0 in the WHAC.

UM-Dearborn returns to action with a home-and-home weekend series against the Rochester University Warriors at 7pm Friday at Fraser Hockeyland in Utica, Mich. and at 7pm Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.
