Wolverines sweep final WHAC awards of 2020

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team picked up the final two Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference weekly awards of the shortened season, it was announced on Monday.

Ashlynn Henderson was named the WHAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time in her career, while sophomore Aspen Starr picked up her first WHAC Player of the Week honor.

Henderson, pitched in two games last week, throwing a one-hit shutout in five innings against Fisher College, while striking out a career-high 13 batters. In the final game of UM-Dearborn's season, Henderson pitched a complete game against NCAA DII foe Bemidji State University, allowing one run in seven innings, giving up just four this and striking out three.  

Starr closed the season in thrilling fashion, hitting a walk-off, three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh in the win over Bemidji State. Starr went 8-for-19 in the final six games of the season, with a home run and six RBIs.

Due to the recent COVID-19 global pandemic, the remainder of the 2020 Wolverine softball season, along with all other seasons remaining, have been cancelled. The Wolverines closed the season with a record of 14-13.
