Softball drops two on Friday in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team continued play at THE Spring Games with two contests Friday in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Wolverines were shutout 6-0 by Briar Cliff University, while a late UM-Dearborn rally fell short in a 7-6 loss to Lindenwood University-Belleville. The losses drop the Wolverines to 8-11 overall.

Against BCU, the Wolverines were held off the scoreboard and to just three hits. Madelin Skene took the loss on the mound with three innings pitched, allowing four runs on four hits, while striking out one.

UM-Dearborn trailed Lindenwood-Belleville 7-1, but got back into the game with three runs in the fifth, including an RBI for Marisa Vermiglio. The Wolverines closed the gap with an RBI from Amy Jarrett in the sixth and another from Aspen Starr in the seventh, but the rally fell short.

Samantha Torongeau was charged with the loss, tossing 1.2 innings, allowing six runs, two earned, on four hits, while striking out two.

The Wolverines continue play with two more on Sunday, starting against Thomas More University at 1:30 pm, followed by a matchup with St. Ambrose University at 3:45 pm.
