HOWELL, MI – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team (7-10; 7-7) swept a doubleheader on Saturday at Cleary University (10-23; 3-11), propelled by 22 runs and 28 hits on offense. 

The Wolverines got on the board right away in game one with a Nathan Mack three-run home run to deep left, his first collegiate blast. Cleary would a run in the 1^st inning and three in the 2^nd inning to take a 4-3 lead, but the Wolverines responded with five runs in the 3^rd inning highlighted by a two-run triple from freshman Drake Schultz. After building an 11-4 advantage, the Cougars stormed back with seven runs in the last two frames to send the game into extra innings. Mack delivered the decisive blow in the 10^th inning with a two-run triple, capping a four-hit, seven RBI effort. He would later score on a Robert Begley single. After Cleary got two baserunners on and the tying run to the plate, Mack came in to get the last two outs and preserve the 14-12 win and earn his first save. Freshman Ian Gundersen (1-0) picked up the win in relief. Antonio Carta and Shane Fugate each had three hits in the game, while Max McLennan and Max Tomaszewski each added a pair as part of a 16 hit attack on offense.

Game two saw Cleary jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the 1^st inning. Mack would continue his hot day at the plate with a two-run triple in the 3^rd inning. The Cougars tacked on two more in the 5^th inning to take a 4-2 lead but the lead wouldn't last long after RBI singles by Evan Morin and Robert Begley tied the game, and a two-run double by freshman Nathaniel Wandrie put the Wolverines up 6-4 in route to a 8-4 victory. Tyler Troyer (2-1) stymied the Cleary offense pitching the final 4.2 innings in relief surrendering only two hits and no runs to earn the win. Mack finished with three hits while Wandrie finished with three hits and a team-high three RBI in the nightcap. Fugate also collected hits four and five on the day while scoring a team-high three runs.

The Wolverines square off with Aquinas College at Lake Michigan Credit Union Field, home of the Michigan Whitecaps, Sunday beginning at 2:00pm in Comstock Park.
