Wolverines Drop Two to Golden Eagles

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team (2-4; 2-4) lost both games of their doubleheader at Cornerstone (12-6; 7-1) on Tuesday, 7-4 & 14-6.

A balk and an RBI single by Max McLennan put the Wolverines up 2-0 in the second inning of game one. After Cornerstone answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, RBI singles by Shane Fugate and Robert Begley gave the Maize and Blue a 4-1 lead. Cornerstone would go on to score six unanswered runs for the victory. Begley and Antonio Carta each had two hits offensively. Matthew Silka started and took the loss on the mound.

Andrew Capone led off game two with a solo homerun to right, his first of the year. The Golden Eagles responded with one in the first and used an 8-run third inning to break the game open. The Wolverines added a run in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to get the game within three, but Cornerstone scored five unanswered runs to clinch the game by a score of 14-6. Capone, Begley, Fugate and Nathan Mack all had multi-hit games on offense. Tyler Troyer got the start and took the loss.

The Wolverines are back in action with a non-conference doubleheader at Concordia Unviersity on Wednesday and resume conference action on Friday with a doubleheader at Lourdes University.
