Wolverines sweep Crusaders

Wolverines sweep Crusaders

LIVONIA, MI – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team (5-8; 5-5) swept a Saturday doubleheader at Madonna (8-9; 4-4) to extend their conference winning streak to three games, and their winning streak against the Crusaders in conference games to five dating back to 2018.

Tyler Koons (2-1) started game one and picked up where he left off last week with a strong outing. The right-hander went six innings giving up six hits while striking out six and allowing only one run. After Madonna scored one in the 4th inning, the Wolverines were able to push across two runs in the 6th inning thanks to an RBI groundout by freshman Drake Schultz and an RBI single from Evan Morin. That would be the only runs in game one as Jack Hook and Dan Bos would come in to close the door and seal the 2-1 victory.

A strong outing from Garrett Davis (1-0) and the Maize and Blue offense clinched the sweep in game two by a score of 9-4. Davis pitched into the 8th inning allowing only five hits and three walks while striking out six. After scoring two runs in the 1st inning, a Shaun Hannibal three-run blast in the 2nd inning gave the Wolverines a 5-0 lead. Shane Fugate would plate the next three runs with an RBI single in the 4th inning and a two-RBI double in the 8th inning. Fugate finished with four hits and four RBI to lead the offense while Robert Begley and Morin would each contribute two hits as part of a 12-hit attack.

The Wolverines are back in action tomorrow with a conference doubleheader in Ann Arbor against Concordia University.
