Wolverines split twin bill with Lourdes

Wolverines split twin bill with Lourdes

TOLEDO, Ohio.– The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team (3-7; 3-5) bounced back from a 12-5 loss in game one to win game two, 5-2, and earn a split against Lourdes University (13-15; 4-6) on Friday at Mercy Field in Toledo, Ohio. The win was the first conference victory against Lourdes in program history.

Lourdes jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning of game one. A Shaun Hannibal solo home run and bases loaded walks by Max Tomaszewski and Evan Morin in the 3rd inning got the Wolverines within four, but the Gray Wolves added to their lead and never looked back winning by a 12-5 final. Hannibal finished with three hits while Tomaszewski, Morin, and Andrew Capone each had two hits. John Dyda (1-1) started and took the loss on the mound.

Tyler Koons (1-1) took the mound for the Maize and Blue in game two firing seven innings of shutout ball, striking out eight and walking none while only surrendering five hits. The Wolverines got on the board with three runs in the 4th inning led by RBI singles from Capone and Tomaszewski. Morin's first homer of the season and a run scored on a throwing error in the 7th inning would give UM-Dearborn a 5-0 lead and proved to be enough as they hung on to win 5-2. Nathan Mack, Capone, and Tomaszewski all had multi-hit games in the night cap.

The Maize and Blue return to action with conference doubleheaders next weekend at Madonna University and Concordia University.
