ANN ARBOR, MI – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team (5-10; 5-7) lost both ends of the doubleheader Sunday at conference-leading Concordia University (27-13; 11-3) by scores of 6-5 & 11-5.
Game one began with a Concordia three-run home run in the 1st inning. The Wolverines answered right back by loading the bases in the second inning setting up freshman Max McLennan who sent the first pitch he saw over the 400-foot center field wall for a grand slam, his first collegiate home run. The offense would get one more run in the 4th inning thanks to an RBI double by Evan Morin to make it 5-3, but the Cardinals would score three unanswered runs to claim the victory. John Dyda (1-2) took the loss in relief.
Concordia got the scoring started in game two, plating two runs in the 2nd inning. Shane Fugate hit a solo shot in the 4th to increase his team-leading RBI total to 12. The Cardinals answered back with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-1 lead. The Wolverines were able to push across three more runs and take a 4-3 lead in the top of the 5th highlighted by RBI singles from Shaun Hannibal and Nathan Mack. That would be the last time the Maize and Blue held the lead as the home team would score four times in the bottom of the frame and would pull away with an 11-5 victory. Malcolm Harris (0-1) took the loss on the mound.
The Wolverines are back in action with a single 9-inning conference game at Siena Heights on Thursday evening.
