Spiegel goal lifts Wolverines to sweep

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn recovered from a late Western Michigan University to close out a weekend sweep in Great Lakes Collegiate League action Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

The Wolverines led 2-0 into the third period, but two goals for the Stallions tied the score with under 10 minutes to play. Andrew Spiegel (SO/Riverview, Mich.) rescued the Wolverines with an unassisted goal with 4:52 left in the game. Kevin Bechard (SO/Trenton, Mich.) added an empty-net goal to secure the 4-2 victory for UM-Dearborn, which moves to 6-5-1 overall and 2-4 in the GLCHL.

For the second straight night, Gino Darin (SR/Allen Park Mich.) got the Wolverines on the board first. Darin found the back of the net on a feed from John Barlow (SO/Shelby Twp, Mich.), 1:18 into the second period. Bechard scored his first of the night on an assist from Spiegel to give the Wolverines a two-goal lead going into the second intermission.

Thomas Proudluck picked up his second straight win in net for UM-Dearborn, making 26 saves. Proudluck added his first assist of the season on Bechard's empty-net goal.

The Wolverines are off for three week before hosting Eastern Michigan University Dec. 2-3 at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
