Wolverines roll to 7-1 win over Kent State

?DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team won its second consecutive game, topping the visiting Kent State University Golden Flashes 7-1 in a Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League contest Friday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.

UM-Dearborn, which improved to 16-6-1 on the season and 8-5 in the GLCHL, scored six unanaswered goals after KSU tied the game at 1-1 in the first period. The Wolverines were led by Kevin Bechard (SO/Trenton, Mich.), Justin Dunn (FR/Trenton, Mich.) and Nic LaBurn (SO/Northville, Mich.) as the team is adjusting to life without leading scorer Tyler Groat (SO/Wyandotte, Mich.), who joined team captain Ryan Urso (JR/Livonia, Mich.) for the World University Games in Almaty, Kazakhstan for two weeks.

Dunn finished with two goals, including the game winner, while adding three assists. LaBurn added two goals and an assist, while Bechard rolled up a goal and four assists. Bechard now has 18 goals on the season, second most on the team.

John Barlow (SO/Shelby Twp, Mich.) and Andrew Spiegel (SO/Riverview, Mich.) each added a goal as the Wolverines outshot the Golden Flashes 49-28.

Thomas Proudlock (SO/Southgate, Mich.) earned the victory between the pipes for UM-Dearborn, stopping 27 shots. Proudluck now has a team-high nine wins in net.

The Wolverines close the weekend series with KSU at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
