Wolverines upset Madonna on Senior Day, secure sixth-seed in WHAC playoffs

DEARBORN, Mich.— The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team returned to action Saturday afternoon, playing host to the Madonna University Crusaders in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match-up on Senior Day.

Prior to the start of the match, the UM-Dearborn Athletic Department celebrated the hard-work and commitment of seniors Jack Barnett, Vito Serra, Jason Soltis, and Mohamad Anani.

After finding themselves trailing at the half, the Wolverines would strike twice in the final 15 minutes to edge out Madonna 3-2, clinching the sixth seed in the WHAC playoff tournament this weekend.

The Crusaders would take an early lead when Ali Basma found the back of the net in the 16th minute. Madonna would find its lead extended in the 30th minute when an own-goal went against the Wolverines. Prior to the end of the half, Josiah Yoder would bring UM-Dearborn closer, cutting the lead to one in the 38th minute.

The Wolverines would press late, setting up a free-kick where Nicolas Pulcini connected to tie the game in the 74th minute.

Then in the 84th minute, senior Vito Serra put UM-Dearborn in front off of an Austin Dukes throw-in, on its way to the win.

With the win, the Wolverines finish the regular season 5-10-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the WHAC.

Everest Brace got the start in goal for UM-Dearborn, making three saves in the game.

The Wolverines return to action against in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference playoffs against Lawrence Tech University at 6pm Saturday in Southfield, Mich.
