RIVERVIEW, Mich.— The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team returned to action by playing host to the Siena Heights University Saints in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup.
Two overtimes were not enough to decide a winner between the Wolverines and Saints, as the two clubs would settle for a 1-1 draw.
The best scoring opportunity for either club in the first half would come during the 14th minute when UM-Dearborn was awarded a penalty kick after a foul was called in the 18-yard box of SHU. Nicolas Pulcini would take the shot for the Wolverines, however the Saints keeper Matt LeBlanc would make a diving safe to his left to keep the game at a scoreless tie.
The second half would feature the same strong defense and physicality as the first, however the Saints would break the tie in the 83rd minute, as Marcelo Rocha would find the back of the net. UM-Dearborn would respond just three minutes later as Robi Redizic would tie the game off of an Austin Dukes throw-in. The Wolverines would find themselves down two men due to red cards in the 89th and 100th minute, yet would manage to stifle a Saints push in the two overtimes.
The draw moves UM-Dearborn to 2-7-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the WHAC.
SHU held the edge in shots 17-10 and in corner kicks, 5-3.
