Wolverines edge out Warriors for tough win

DEARBORN, Mich.— The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team returned to action Wednesday night, playing host to the Rochester University Warriors in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match-up.

The Wolverines and Warriors traded off goals in the first half, with UM-Dearborn leading 3-2 at the break. The Wolverines would tighten up on defense and hold on for the victory.

UM-Dearborn took the lead in the seventh minute off of an Austin Dukes throw-in, which deflected in off of a Rochester University defender for an own-goal. After a quick Warrior response that tied the game, Brendan Petz let a shot go from distance that put the Wolverines back up a goal. Rochester University would find the equalizer in the 43rd minute, however Christian Cole would connect off of a Robi Redzic pass for the eventual game-winner, just 31 seconds later.

The win improves UM-Dearborn to 4-10-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the WHAC.

Goalkeepers Everest Brace (UM-D) and Wyatt Chunn (RU) played strong in the second half, keeping the game tight. Brace would finish the game with four saves, while Chunn would make five of his own.

The Wolverines return to action against the Madonna University Crusaders on Senior Day at 3pm at Fordson High School in Dearborn, Mich.
