Wolverines split pair of WHAC matches

DEARBORN, Mich.- The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team returned to action with two road WHAC contests this past Friday against the Concordia University Cardinals and on Wednesday against the Cornerstone University Golden Eagles. 

On Friday (10/8) afternoon, the Wolverines and Cardinals traded off a goal each finding themselves tied at the half. Austin Dukes would find the back of the net off of a pass from Andrew Schwartz in the 20th minute. The Cardinals would respond in the final minute of the first half when Tanguy Flachez connected on a penalty shot. Christian Cole would UM-Dearborn on top in the 73rd minute with the assists going to Jack Barnett. The Wolverines would then seal the victory as Schwartz added an insurance goal in the final minute of the game with Joseph Cornell getting the assist. 

Goalkeeper Everst Brace would get the win, making two saves. UM-Dearborn held the edge in shots, 17-7, while both teams had five corner kicks. 

Last night, the Wolverines and Golden Eagles would find themselves tied at one goal apiece at the end of 90 at Comstock Park High School in Comstock Park, Mich. Despite Cornerstone holding the edge in shots, the first half would end scoreless. The Golden Eagles would break the tie in the 52nd minute when Nate Kaercher with assists going to David Mawi and Christian Galloway. The Wolverines would catch a break when a Cornerstone defender would head the ball into their own goal, tying the game at one in the 77th minute. The first overtime period would be short-lived, as the Golden Eagles would find the game-winner when Galloway connected off of a pass from Kaercher, giving Cornerstone the 2-1 victory.

The split moves UM-Dearborn to 3-9-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the WHAC.

Brace would start in goal in this game as well, making two saves. The Golden Eagles held the edge in shots, 19-7 and corner kicks, 8-4.

The Wolverines return to action against the Aquinas College Saints at 7pm Wednesday, October 20th at Dearborn High School in Dearborn, Mich.
