Wolverines top Albion in home opener, 6-1

DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's soccer team opened the 2021 season, playing host to the Albion College Brittons Wednesday night at Dearborn High School in Dearborn, Mich. 

The Wolverine offense was running on all cylinders, scoring four times in the first half, on its way to a 6-1 victory over the Brittons. Senior Jack Barnett opened the scoring with an unassisted goal in the fifth minute, giving UM-Dearborn an early lead. Newcomers Andrew Schwartz and John Soltis would find the back of the net in the 33rd and 36th minute, respectively, both earning their first goals as Wolverines. Senior Mohamad Anani would finish the scoring the first half in the 39th minute. 

Christian Cole also found the back of the net for UM-Dearborn, while Soltis would add his second of the game in the 83rd minute. Austin Dukes and Barnett would add assists in the game. The win improve the Wolverines to 1-0 overall on the season.

Elijah Burlak made four saves in the game, earning his first career win in goal for the Wolverines. 

UM-Dearborn outshout Albion 17-5, and held the edge in corners, 4-2.

Following Wednesday's home opener, the Wolverines will play seven more non-conference games against the likes of NCAA DIII Kalamazoo College and 19th ranked Spring Arbor University. The Wolverines open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play against 14th ranked Indiana Tech on Sept. 25. UM-Dearborn will wrap up the season with the final two games at home against Rochester University on Oct. 27, while Senior Day will take place against Madonna University on Oct. 30.
