Marchese's Hat Trick Lifts Hockey Over Adrian

Dearborn, MI - The Michigan-Dearborn hockey team fought back Friday night to win a thrilling 5-4 overtime game against the Adrian Bulldogs. The 18th ranked Wolverines handed the 3rd ranked Bulldogs their first loss of the season. The win for Michigan-Dearborn ends their seven game losing streak in which they lost one of those games in overtime and one in a shootout.

Senior Jimmy Marchese and freshman Ryan Urso got the Wolverines on the board in the first period as they both scored power play goals giving Michigan-Dearborn a 2-0 lead after the first period. The Bulldogs copied the Wolverines in the second period scoring two power play goals of their own in the second period. Just 42 seconds into the third period Marchese struck again scoring the game's first even strength goal giving Michigan-Dearborn a 3-2 lead. Just over three minutes later Adrian scored the equalizer as the game was tied again. With just over 13 minutes remaining in the game sophomore Andrew Shalawylo was called for a high sticking penalty. Adrian College took advantage of the power play scoring about one minute into the power play giving the Bulldogs a 4-3 lead. It did not look good for the home team as time was winding down. With goaltender Nathan Ferris pulled, sophomore Derek Kessler scored the tying goal with one minute remaining in the game. Just over two minutes into overtime Marchese completed his hat trick and gave the Wolverines a much needed victory. Kessler assisted on the game winner giving a goal and an assist on the night.

The road does not get any easier for the hockey team as they host 9th ranked Robert Morris (IL) next weekend at the field house. Game time for both games is 7:30pm.
