Hockey Splits with Western Michigan

Dearborn, MI - The 23rd ranked Michigan-Dearborn hockey team split the weekend series against the 25th ranked Stallions of Western Michigan. After a 6-5 loss in a shootout on Friday night, the Wolverines were not about to get swept. Freshman Jeff McFarland started the scoring early with a goal just one minute and thirty seconds into the game. Late in the first period, junior Ryan Kelly scored a power play goal to give Michigan-Dearborn a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

The Wolverines continued to score as sophomore Gino Darin scored the team's third goal of the game just before the midway point of the second period. Western Michigan would not go down without a fight. The Stallions scored two power play goals in the penalty filled second period with the second goal occuring with just 6 seconds remaining in the period.

If Western Michigan had any momentum heading into the third period, Wolverines senior captain Jase Paciocco ended that with two goals three minutes apart to stretch the lead to 5-2. Sophomore Derek Kessler finished the game's scoring with a power play goal and securing the 6-2 win for Michigan-Dearborn.

Paciocco had two goals and three assists in the game. Kelly added one goal and two assists, while Darin, coming off a hat trick in Friday night's loss, added one goal and one assist. The hockey team will next on the Adrian Bulldogs at home Friday night at 7:30pm.
