DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn will debut a new program on Friday as the Wolverine men's golf team will compete for the first time as a varsity-sponsored team.

The Wolverines are set for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Jamboree No. 1 hosted by Aquinas College at 10 am at Timber Ridge Golf Club in East Lansing, Mich., Friday and Saturday.

UM-Dearborn head coach Howard Inch has a team of seven golfers in 2019-20 and is excited to see how his young team will perform in its first collegiate competition.

"Heading into our inaugural season of competitive golf our hopes are high and we see no limits," Inch said. "I expect these inaugural teams to show 'flashes of brilliance' this season, while we will learn and grow from each experience."

The team includes junior Mike Mercier (Hazel Park, Mich.), sophomores Alex Braid (Brighton, Mich.) and Nick Metaxas (Dearborn), as well as freshmen Nicholas Cooper (Woodhaven, Mich.), Ryan Gniewek (Brighton), Nolan Steele (Clinton Township, Mich.) and Logan Willoughby (Livonia, Mich.).

After the first WHAC Jamboree, UM-Dearborn will compete at the Cleary Invitational on Tuesday, followed by the Lawrence Tech Blue Devil Invitational on Sept. 23-24 at TreeTops in Gaylord, Mich.

The second WHAC Jamboree is Oct. 4-5, followed by the third WHAC event Oct. 7-8 to close out the fall portion of the schedule.
