UM-Dearborn drops two against UNOH to open the season

LIMA, Ohio. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team opened the 2021 season dropping both games of a road double-header against the University of Northwestern Ohio in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Friday night in Lima, Ohio.

In the first match-up, the Wolverines took the opening frame, but had to battle back to force a fifth set. However, the Racers hung on to take the opening contest 20-25, 25-16, 25-14, 22-25, and 15-13.

Gina Giacomini led the UM-Dearborn offense with 15 kills, while Sabrina Giacomini and Regan Rose finished with 15 and 11 assists, respectively. Delany Smith had a team-high 12 digs.

Aaliyah Alexis had 15 kills and Hanna Miller had 43 assists to lead UNOH.

The second match-up of the double-header also needed a fifth and deciding set. The Wolverines once again clawed back by winning the fourth set, but the Racers took the final frame and the contest 25-10, 24-26, 25-15,18-25, 15-9. 

Gina Giacomini led they way for UM-Dearborn with 10 kills, while Sabrina Giacomini and Rose finished with 17 and 13 assists, respectively. Alexis had 18 kills and Miller added 42 assists in the contest to lead UNOH. The two losses drops UM-Dearborn to 0-2 overall and 0-2 in the WHAC to open the season.

 

The Wolverines have a short turnaround as they take on Siena Heights University at 4pm Saturday at the Siena Heights Fieldhouse in Adrian, Mich.
