UM-Dearborn drops two at Albion

ALBION, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team played two games Saturday in Albion, Mich., falling to Kalamazoo College and Albion College in nonconference action.

The first match for the Wolverines came against Kalamzoo College. After dropping the first set, UM-Dearborn bounced back to take the second. After a close third set went to the Hornets, Kalamazoo closed the match in four. The line score was 25-17, 17-25, 26-24, 25-20.

Briann Alspaugh (JR/St. Louis MI) led the Wolverine attack with 13 kills, as she just missed a double-double with nine digs, while adding 4.5 total blocks. Shayla Smalls (SO/Canton, MI) added nine kills and seven digs, while Colby DeMare (SR/Dearborn MI) finished with nine kills. Setter Daniella Barile (FR/Plymouth MI) picked up a double-double with 33 assists and 12 digs. The Wolverine defense was led by Raechel Warchock (SR/Jackson, MI) with 26 digs and Taylor Bejma (SO/Garden City) with 10.

The final match against the host team, as the Brits knocked off the Wolverines in three, 25-16, 25-14, 25-19. The losses drop UM-Dearborn to 8-14 overall.

Alspaugh led the offense with seven kills, while Smalls finished with six. Katherine Nealy (SO/Southfield, MI), Kristina Ivanovic (SO/Macomb, MI) and DeMare each added five kills. Barile got her second double-double of the day with 24 assists and 10 digs. Warchock added a team-high 14 digs.

The Wolverines return to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play against Marygrove College Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.
