Softball Drops Two Against Madonna

Livonia, MI - The softball team continued WHAC play Friday against the Madonna University Crusaders. Michigan-Dearborn jumped out on top early scoring two runs in the top of the first. Madonna would score single runs in the second and third innings to tie the game. The game would remain tied until the Wolverines scored three runs in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Haley Knodell (SO/Sterling Heights, MI) tripled to clear the bases. Madonna would fight back in the seventh inning and tie the game with a big two out double scoring the tying runs. Michigan-Dearborn went down in order in the eighth inning. The Crusaders would end the game with a single in the bottom eighth edging the Wolverines 6-5. GIna Verduzco took the loss for Michigan-Dearborn.

In game two, Alex Elwell (SR/Kalamazoo, MI) started and Madonna jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings. The Crusaders would two more runs as Michigan-Dearborn would only get three hits in the game. The Wolverines scored two runs in the top of the sixth but could not get any other runs across in losing 5-2. Elwell pitched six innings allowing five runs, only two of them earned, while striking out three. The softball team will next travel to Lima, Ohio on Saturday to take on the University of Northwestern Ohio at 1:00pm.
