BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn (18-13, 8-6) softball team split a doubleheader against the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils (15-16, 6-8) on Saturday (Apr. 15) at Detroit Country Day. The Blue Devils took a mistake-ridden game one 4-1, while the Wolverines claimed game two 4-3 thanks to a Marisa Vermiglio two-run home run.

Game One

The Wolverines tallied just one run despite having eight base runners. Starting pitcher Lanie Ellinger was dominant in the circle as she three six innings and surrendered just three base hits. Ellinger was tagged with four runs (one earned) and struck out six Blue Devils.

Freshman Emily McCalla tallied the lone RBI for the Wolverines in game one as she ripped an RBI single down the left-field line in the fourth inning.

The Blue Devils would ultimately take the contest 4-1 as the Wolverine defense made three errors.

Game Two

Despite a slow start in game two, the Wolverine bats woke up in the fourth inning as Marisa Vermiglio tagged a two-run blast over the left centerfield fence to take a 2-1 lead. In the fifth inning, Makenna Millhorn single through the right side to give UM-Dearborn some much-needed insurance. UM-Dearborn would add one final run on an error by the Blue Devil catcher, proving to be important as LTU scored twice in the bottom of the sixth.

The Wolverines would hold on to take the 4-3 victory.
