Henderson wins first career WHAC honor

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team opened the 2019 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season with a convincing sweep in a doubleheader against Lourdes University last week before the rain and cold temperatures forced weekend games to be postponed.

For her efforts in a game one win, UM-Dearborn junior Ashlynn Henderson has been named the WHAC Pitcher of the Week, it was announced by the league Monday. The honor is the first for Henderson in her career.

The Temecula, Calif., native helped the Wolverines open the WHAC season with an 8-1 win in game one last Tuesday against Lourdes. She pitched all seven innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out a season-high six batters, earning the complete game victory.

Henderson is 4-1 with two saves in 33.1 innings pitched. She has a team-best 1.68 ERA and 25 strikeouts.

The Wolverines continue WHAC play against Siena Heights University at 3:30 pm Monday in Adrian, Mich.
