Softball Sweeps Kalamazoo College

Kalamazoo, MI - The softball team traveled to Kalamazoo Tuesday and came away with two victories. In game one, Gina Verduzco (SO/Portage, MI) pitched a gem for Michigan-Dearborn (17-10). She pitched her second consecutive complete game and went seven shutout innings while striking out nine Hornets. Kylie Hill (JR/Adrian, MI) homered in the second inning giving the Wolverines a 1-0 lead in the second inning. In the top of the sixth, Jordan Ewald (SO/Wixom, MI) singled scoring Taylor Moceri (JR/Sterling Heights, MI) as Michigan-Dearborn won game one 2-0.

In game two, Michigan-Dearborn jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run homerun by Ewald. Kalamazoo would tie it in the bottom of the first with two unearned runs of starter Candace Kitchen (FR/Clarkston, MI). The Wolverines offense got going again in the second inning scoring five runs and then scoring another four runs in the fifth inning to take an 11-2 lead. Kalamazoo responded with five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to take a 12-11 lead. The Wolverines tied the game at 12 when Sarah Prashad (FR/Mississauga, Ontario) singled to score Riley Hison (FR/Macomb Township, MI). Neither team scored in the eighth inning taking the game to the ninth inning. Michigan-Dearborn scored four runs in the top of the ninth with Kitchen singling to score two of the four runs as the Wolverines won game two 16-12.

Next up for the softball team is a doubleheader on Friday against Cornerstone University. The doubleheader will be played at Alumni Field in Ann Arbor and game one is set to start at 3:30pm.
