Softball Drops Two in Day One at Tucson Invitational

Softball Drops Two in Day One at Tucson Invitational

Tucson, AZ - The softball team opened up play Friday in Tucson. The Wolverines dropped a 3-2 decision to Presentation College in the opener and closed the day with a 2-1 loss to the University of Great Falls. In between those games, the Wolverines defeated Douglas College 11-7. The win against Douglas College, out of British Columbia, Canada, does not count towards their overall record as the NAIA recognizes Douglas College as a junior college and games against any junior college are not counted for overall wins or losses.

Sophomore Gina Verduzco pitched against Presentation College. Verduzco pitched a complete game and allowed three earned runs on seven hits and struck out six in the loss. Junior Taylor Moceri had two hits and scored one of Michigan-Dearborn's runs, while senior Alexis Powell was on base three times with one hit, two walks, and one run batted in.

Senior Alex Elwell pitched against the University of Great Falls and pitched a great game. Elwell pitched six innings and allowed two unearned runs and only three hits while striking out four batters. Offensively, the Wolverines could only muster two hits with the lone run coming on junior Kylie Hill's sacrifice fly.

The softball team has three more games on Saturday and continue in Tucson until March 12th.
