DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's soccer team earned a milestone victory in its home opener on Thursday, defeating Shawnee State 1-0 at The Fieldhouse. The win marks not only the Wolverines' first of the 2025 season, but also the first career victory for Head Coach Tesa McKibben.
UM-Dearborn (1-4-0) wasted little time getting on the board. In the eighth minute, Valentina Farran converted a setup from Mallory Botten, firing home what proved to be the match-winner. The Wolverines' defense and goalkeeping made sure it held up the rest of the way.
Junior goalkeeper Isabelle Shaw was sharp between the posts, recording four saves to secure her first shutout of the season. Farran and Botten led the UM-Dearborn attack with a combined five shots, while the Wolverines tallied six shots on goal overall.
Shawnee State (1-4-1) generated 11 total shots, but the UM-Dearborn back line stood strong to deny the Bears any breakthrough.
