Tasker Makes 13 Saves in Road Loss
The Wolverines open up their home schedule on Thursday (Sept. 11)
EAST CHICAGO, Ind. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's soccer team battled through a defensive contest on the road Saturday night but ultimately came up short in a 2–0 loss to Indiana Northwest.
After a scoreless first half, the RedHawks broke through in the 70th minute when Xiomara Santana finished a setup from Ava Haluska to give IUN a 1–0 edge. Ten minutes later, Indiana Northwest doubled its lead as Alanis Gonzalez converted off an assist from Santana to secure the victory.
Despite the final score, UM-Dearborn's defense and goalkeeping kept the Wolverines in the match. Senior goalkeeper Julia Tasker turned in a standout performance, recording 13 saves on 15 shots on goal, keeping her side level through more than two-thirds of the contest.
Offensively, the Wolverines generated eight shots with four on target, led by Mallory Botten, Sofia Pinkowski, Ruth Windeler, and Nadia Saab, who each placed attempts on frame. Still, UM-Dearborn was unable to find a breakthrough against IUN goalkeeper Isabel Escalera, who stopped all four shots faced to earn the shutout.
The Wolverines (0-4-0) continue to search for their first win of the season but showed stretches of organized play and resilience against a high-volume Indiana Northwest attack that finished with 29 total shots and four corners.
