DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team won its second straight game, topping Madonna University in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Saturday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines jumped out to an early advantage with an 8-0 run after the opening tip, but the Crusaders found their rhythm on the offensive end to go up by as many as nine in the second quarter. Junior Kendall Rose (JR/Canton, MI) hit a 3-pointer in the final seconds of the first half to pull the Wolverines within three at 36-33 at the break.

UM-Dearborn controlled the third quarter with tough defense and strong free-throw shooting. The Wolverines outscored the Crusaders 21-10 in the third, hitting 10 free throws to pull away. Crucial baskets from senior Marisa Sauve (SR/Dearborn, MI) and sophomore Jeorgia Jones (SO/Detroit, MI) early in the fourth kept UM-Dearborn in front for a 69-56 win.

The win is the first for UM-Dearborn over Madonna since Jan. 9, 2013 and moves the Wolverines to 8-20 overall and 3-16 in the WHAC.

Sophomore Sade Lemons (SO/Sterling Heights, MI) led the Wolverines with a double-double, recording 16 points and 11 rebounds. Rose finished with 14 points and four rebounds, while Jones added 12 points and eight rebounds. Senior Meredith Williams (SR/Novi, Mich.), senior Megan Swick (SR/Grosse Ile, Mich.), junior Natalie Spala (JR/Livonia, MI) and Sauve each finished with six points as the Wolverines showcased a balanced scoring attack.

UM-Dearborn shot 24-of-65 from the field, 8-of-29 from deep and 13-of-16 from the line. UM-Dearborn won the rebounding battle 48-32.

Becca Sabol led the Crusaders with a double-double, including 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Wolverines close the 2017-18 season against Cornerstone University at 5:30 pm Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse. The game will be preceded by a Senior Night ceremony to honor six Wolverine seniors.
