Wolverines get first WHAC win, topping Lourdes 65-57

SYLVANIA, Ohio - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball broke through for the team's first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference win of the season, topping Lourdes University Saturday in Sylvania, Ohio.

The Wolverines trailed by nine points at the half, but evened the game heading into the fourth quarter. UM-Dearborn outscored Lourdes 19-11 in the fourth, led by a career-high in scoring for sophomore Jeorgia Jones (SO/Detroit, MI), closing out a 65-57 win. The Wolverines improve to 6-15 overall and 1-11 in the WHAC.

Jones was 12-of-19 from the field, finishing with 27 points. She narrowly missed a double-double, pulling down a team-high nine rebounds.

Junior Natalie Spala (JR/Livonia, MI) continued her recent surge, finishing with 16 points and six rebounds, while Sade Lemons (SO/Sterling Heights, MI) added eight points and six rebounds. Senior Meredith Williams (SR/Novi, Mich.) continued her strong performance on the defensive end, picking up four steals.

The Wolverines shot 26-of-63 from the field, 3-of-13 from deep and 10-of-13 from the line, while being narrowly outrebounded 38-37.

The Gray Wolves were led by Tatyana Reynolds with 17 points, while LaTyrah Beasley added 12 points off the bench.

The Wolverines return home to take on Rochester College at 5:30 pm Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
