Late rally falls short for Wolverines against Racers

DEARBORN, Mich. - Despite a furious rally in the fourth quarter, the University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team was unable to overcome an early deficit in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup against the University of Northwestern Ohio Wednesday in the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.

The Wolverines trailed by 20 at the end of the third quarter, but cut the Racer lead to single-digits late. UNOH eventually closed out the contest 65-55, dropping UM-Dearborn to 4-8 overall and 0-5 in the WHAC.

Sophomore Sade Lemons (SO/Sterling Heights, MI) scored eight of her team-high 13 points in the fourth quarter, while adding seven rebounds for the Wolverines. Junior Emily Heinrich (JR/South Lyon, MI) added 11 points and four rebounds, while senior Megan Swick (SR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) finished with 10 points, including three 3-pointers, and five rebounds.

The Wolverines shot 20-of-59 from the field, 5-of-22 from deep and 10-of-13 from the line, while winning the rebounding battle 34-32.

UNOH was led by Kierra Billingsley with 15 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double, while Emily Patton added 13 points. The Racers shot 23-of-52 from the field, 5-of-16 from 3-point range and 14-of-22 from the free-throw line.

The Wolverines continue WHAC play against Siena Heights University at 5:30 pm Saturday in Adrian, Mich.
