ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team opened the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference season against league newcomer Rochester College Wednesday in Rochester Hills, Mich.
The Wolverines were within five points midway through the second quarter, but the Warriors went on a run to close the half and controlled the rest of the contest to pick up the 74-40 win. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in the WHAC.
The Wolverines were led by senior Megan Swick (SR/Grosse Ile, Mich.) with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Swick was strong from the outside, hitting four 3-pointers. Sophomore Sade Lemons (SO/Sterling Heights, MI) added six points, while sophomore Jeorgia Jones (SO/Detroit, MI) had a team-high four rebounds.
The Wolverines shot 14-of-52 from the field, 6-of-22 from deep and 6-of-10 from the line, while losing the rebounding battle 38-26.
Rochester was led by Devan Valko with 16 points, including four 3-pointers, while Kendra Kujat added 15 points off the bench.
The Wolverines return home to host Lourdes University at 1 pm Saturday in the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
