Wolverines hit 14 triples to topple Maple Leafs

GOSHEN, Ind. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team traveled to Indiana to take on Goshen College, a program that was in the NAIA national semifinal two years ago, in a non-conference contest Wednesday in Goshen, Ind.

The Wolverines exploded for 28 points in the second quarter and ran away from the Maple Leafs for a 77-57 win. The victory pushes UM-Dearborn to an even 3-3 overall record this season.

The Wolverines outscored the Maple Leafs by 17 points in the second quarter to take a 44-24 lead into the break. UM-Dearborn continued its hot shooting in the second half to close out the win.

Sophomore Sade Lemons (SO/Sterling Heights, MI) was strong all game, finishing with a game-high 23 points, including a career-best seven 3-pointers, while adding seven rebounds. Junior Natalie Spala (JR/Livonia, MI) came off the bench to score 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including three 3-pointers. Sophomore Jeorgia Jones (SO/Detroit, MI) added 12 points and five rebounds.

The Wolverines shot 28-of-67 from the field, 14-of-30 from deep and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. UM-Dearborn won the rebounding battle 44-29, while finishing with 19 assists and 19 turnovers.

Sydney Stein led the Maple Leafs with 16 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.

UM-Dearborn continues non-conference play against Great Lakes Christian College at 1 pm Saturday in Lansing, Mich.
