Wolverines drop two at LTU Tip-Off Classic

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team hit the road for the first time this season for two games at the Lawrence Technological University Tip-Off Classic this weekend in Southfield, Mich.

The Wolverines fell to No. 21 University of Saint Francis (Ind.) 68-45 on Saturday and dropped a contest with Point Park University 72-56 Sunday. The losses move UM-Dearborn to 1-3 overall on the young season.

In the matchup with USF, the Wolverines were in an early hole, down 27-8 after the first quarter. The teams played nearly even the rest of the way, but UM-Dearborn could not cut into the deficit.

Sophomores Jeorgia Jones (SO/Detroit, MI) and Sade Lemons (SO/Sterling Heights, MI) each led the Wolverines with eight points, while Emily Heinrich (JR/South Lyon, MI) came off the bench to score seven. Lemons and senior Meredith Williams (SR/Novi, Mich.) each finished with a team-best six rebounds.

The Wolverines shot 16-of-42 from the field, 4-of-18 from deep and 9-of-13 from the line. USF outrebounded UM-Dearborn 32-27.

Against Point Park, the Pioneers pulled away in the third quarter, taking the frame 28-15. Freshman Kayla Knight (FR/Ypsilanti, MI) led the Wolverines with 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting, while adding a team-high eight rebounds. Jones finished with eight points and Lemons added seven.

The Wolverines shot 22-of-57 from the field, 8-of-19 from 3-point range and 4-of-7 from the free-throw line.

The Wolverines are scheduled to travel to Spring Arbor University at 5:30 pm Wednesday in Spring Arbor, Mich.
