Wolverines and Saints spilt WHAC matchup

GRAND RAPIS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team returned to action by taking on the Aquinas College Saints in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Sunday afternoon in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Game one saw the Wolverine offense claw back scoring twice in the fifth and once in the sixth to take a late lead, handing the Saints a 4-2 loss.

 Leading the way for UM-Dearborn was Amber Cheplick (3-3, HR, 2 RBIs), while Alyssa Agosta would drive in a run herself. Shae Scott, Aspen Starr, Lanie Ellinger, and Gina Liss would all record a hit in the game as well.

Ellinger would get the start, going the distance by scattering nine hits and giving up two runs, while striking out 10 in the winning effort.

Game two saw Aquinas College jump out to an early 4-0 lead, while the starting pitcher Leah Ash would hold the Wolverine offense scoreless, lifiting the Saints to a 6-0 win over UM-Dearborn and a spilt of the double-header.

The Wolverines were led in second game by Shae Scott (3-4) and Olivia Marasco (2-3). Sydni Uhlenberg took the loss for UM-Dearborn, giving up five hits and four runs, while striking out three. Hannah Koch would come in for long relief duty, giving up three hits and two runs, while striking out one.

The Wolverines now sit at 17-7 overall and 8-2 in the WHAC on the season.

UM-Dearborn returns to action with a double-header against the Indiana Tech Warriors Wednesday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Ind.
